In 2023, Isaiah Janisch started plaza.of.poetry on Instagram and Facebook to explore liminality and cultural transition through poetry while celebrating nostalgia for the past.

Liminality refers to a state of transition–a place in between destinations. The poems on plaza.of.poetry were inspired by this concept. In Isaiah’s eyes, our culture is currently in a state of liminality. Things that were once cultural staples, like shopping malls and Kmarts, are disappearing. However, many of these places still sit empty and haven’t transitioned to a new purpose. Going further with this idea, Isaiah believes that our entire culture is in a liminal state as we shift to a future that is radically different from any other time period.

To capture this unique place in time, Isaiah combined his love for poetry with liminal space photography and vaporwave aesthetics. The blending of these concepts evolved into plaza.of.poetry–one of the first ever collections of liminal poetry and vaporwave poetry.
